What Data We Collect
PickleScan is a 100% client-side application. All file scanning happens in your browser. We do not:
- Upload your files to any server
- Store or log file contents
- Transmit scan results to third parties
- Track what files you scan
Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics (tracking ID: G-Z8159X0BRK) to understand how visitors use PickleScan. This collects:
- Page views and navigation patterns
- Browser type, device, and location (city/country level)
- Time spent on pages
Google Analytics uses cookies to identify unique visitors. You can opt out using browser extensions like Google Analytics Opt-out or by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense (publisher ID: ca-pub-2761624759066126) to display ads that help fund this free service. AdSense may:
- Use cookies to show personalized ads based on your browsing history
- Collect data about ad impressions and clicks
You can control ad personalization through Google Ad Settings or use ad blockers.
Third-Party Services
PickleScan uses the following third-party libraries (loaded from CDNs):
- JSZip (from jsDelivr) — For extracting PyTorch ZIP archives
- Google Analytics — For usage analytics
- Google AdSense — For ad serving
These services have their own privacy policies. Your browser may send data (IP address, user agent) when loading these resources.
Local Processing Guarantee
Your files never leave your device. All pickle parsing and scanning happens entirely in JavaScript within your browser. We have no servers that receive or store uploaded files.
You can verify this by:
- Inspecting network traffic (no file uploads should appear)
- Reviewing our open-source code on GitHub
- Running PickleScan offline (download the static HTML/JS and open locally)
Security
PickleScan is a security tool, and we take that seriously:
- No server-side code or database
- No authentication or user accounts
- No logs or file retention
- Hosted on secure infrastructure with HTTPS
GDPR & CCPA Compliance
Because we do not collect personal data beyond analytics cookies:
- Right to Access: You can view your Google Analytics data via browser dev tools.
- Right to Deletion: Clear your browser cookies to remove tracking data.
- Right to Opt-Out: Use Google's opt-out tools or ad blockers.
Children's Privacy
PickleScan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
